Malaysia's natural rubber production rose 22.3% to 47,473 tonnes in July 2021 from 38,807 tonnes in June, according to July supply and demand data released by the Department of Statistics on Tuesday. On an annual basis, rubber production in July was up 13.6% from 41,801 tons in the same period last year.
Growth in natural rubber production was supported by month-on-month growth in rubber production in the plantation sector (2.1%) and smallholder sector (24.8%). In line with the trend of rising production, Malaysia's inventories of gum also increased by 16.0% month-on-month to 280,810 tonnes in July 2021 from 242,072 tonnes in June 2021.
Malaysia's natural rubber exports totaled 48,645 tonnes in July, up 0.1% from 48,589 tonnes in June 2021. China remained the main destination for Malaysia's gelatin exports, accounting for 44.6% of total exports in July, followed by the United States (7.7%), Finland (5.0%), Turkey (2.8%), and Egypt (2.7%).
Natural rubber products such as gloves, tyres, hose and rubber thread boosted Malaysia's national export performance.
