The Elk Horn Retreat consist of 17 deeded acres in the middle of the The Elkhorn Mountains south of Helena, MT overlooking Canyon Ferry Lake.
A consortium composed of private landowners, the Blm, the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks, and the National Forest Service cooperatively manage about 300,000 acres in the Elkhorn Mountains with the primary management emphasis on wildlife and habitat, and then on dispersed recreation.
The Elkhorn Mountains are home to one of Montana's healthiest elk herds.
At one time the trappers, miners, Native Americans all called this area home and there are still many old wagon roads, hunting trails and jeep trails in the Elkhorns.
There is also a number of old mining ghost towns scattered through the mountains. Excellent opportunity to build a cabin and you can enjoy your favorite activities like, hiking, mountain biking, hunting and wildlife watching. This property is off-grid, seasonal, and does require 4 wheel drive, ATV or side-by-side.
The property is very remote, need 4-wheeled drive or Utv, ATV to get there. Off -grid and seasonal., The Forest service shuts the gate 12/1 and opens on 5/1.
